Online play rules in Ontario

Ontario's regulated online casino market opened on April 4, 2022. A private online operator is legal in Ontario only when two conditions are met. It must be registered with the AGCO, the regulator, and hold an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. The official directory of these sites is kept by iGaming Ontario at igamingontario.ca.

Two limits apply to every player. Online casino play is 19+, the same age that applies to entering a casino under the Gaming Control Act, 1992. Play is allowed only while physically in Ontario. OLG.ca stands apart from the private sites. It is the Ontario government's own online casino, run by OLG, and the same 19+ and Ontario-only rules apply there.

BetGuard, at betguard.ca, is iGaming Ontario's self-exclusion for online play. One enrolment opts a person 19+ out of every regulated Ontario gambling site, OLG.ca included. The term can be 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom length. BetGuard does not cover land-based casinos, so it does not apply at the door on Pinewood Park Drive. For casinos, My PlayBreak is the program: call the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098, ask casino staff or see a PlaySmart Centre coordinator.

ConnexOntario, Ontario's help line for problem gambling, mental health and addiction, answers at 1-866-531-2600, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Texts go to 247247 with the word CONNEX, and chat is at connexontario.ca.

Paid links appear only on the home page of this guide. There are three, each marked Ad: a button in the header, one in a block under the first screen and one near the end of the page. All three lead to the same private online casino partner. The guide earns a commission from them, and the partner can change.

That partner is not OLG.ca. It has no tie to Cascades Casino North Bay, to Gateway Casinos & Entertainment or to OLG. Before using any online operator, readers can check whether it is legal in Ontario in the iGaming Ontario directory at igamingontario.ca. Online play is 19+ and only while physically in Ontario.
